Engarde DDoS - Advanced Scenarios
Run multi-node simulations, compare outcomes across runs, and convert findings into concrete resilience actions.
Modules
- Multi-region simulation design.
- Attack and target monitor interpretation.
- Cross-run report comparisons and trends.
- Mitigation and scaling recommendations.
Multi-region simulation design
At advanced level, the goal is not only generating higher traffic but creating realistic traffic distribution patterns. By planning timing and intensity across regions, you can evaluate defensive behavior under more realistic conditions.
- Regional spread: Distribute load across multiple regions instead of a single origin.
- Progressive scaling: Control ramp per region to reveal threshold behavior clearly.
- Controlled variation: Change one parameter per run to isolate cause-effect.
Attack/target monitor interpretation
Attack monitor shows generated traffic behavior; target monitor shows how the target responds. Advanced analysis depends on reading these views together rather than independently.
- Attack side: Was traffic generated as designed? Is regional distribution consistent?
- Target side: At which thresholds do latency, errors, or availability begin to degrade?
- Correlation: Does performance degradation begin immediately with traffic increase or with delay?
Report comparison and trend analysis
Avoid decisions based on a single run. Compare similar scenarios across iterations to separate temporary variance from persistent bottlenecks and to measure optimization impact.
- Define comparable runs (same target, similar duration, close parameter set).
- Start with summary metrics (success/error distribution, average latency).
- Inspect thresholds next (p95/p99 spikes, error concentration windows).
- Turn trend findings into the next test hypothesis.
Mitigation and capacity recommendations
The expected advanced output is not only identifying issues, but producing actionable improvement items. Convert report findings into defensive tuning tasks, capacity planning decisions, and operational playbook updates.
- Document measurable recommendations for defensive rule tuning.
- Define explicit capacity thresholds that require scaling.
- Prepare a validation scenario for the next test cycle.
